Quick to put Cup debacle behind us
EMBARRASSING, not my word, Dave Challinor’s and to be honest there are quite a few superlatives that he could have used to describe last Wednesday’s FA Cup defeat to Aldershot.
We looked strong enough in defence, we had the strength and wherewithal to deal with the Shots’ pace but going forward we were hopeless.
There’s no getting away from it, our passing was woeful (unless it was a back pass) our crossing was wayward and our chances in front of goal were almost nonexistent.
Woots hit the woodwork and Tanto had a goal ruled out for off-side but that was it.
We seemed scared to make a telling forward pass or have the courage of our convictions and take on a white shirt, none of our wingers or full backs seamed prepared to challenge their opposite number, simply content to get the ball, turn and pass back and so invite the visitors to press forward, which they did with relish.
Their winning goal came from a comedy of errors as far as County were concerned and as it was so late in the match, we had no chance to raise our game and take anything from it.
They deserved the win and if I’m honest, I feared what Saturday will bring.
Sutton United, sitting bottom of the table with only three wins all season but undefeated in six while we, top of the table but suffering some sort of slump.
A recipe for disaster HA.HA.HA.HA.HA.HA. HA.HA. How wrong can you be?
There must have been words said at Carrington during the later part of the week, a few home truths but whatever happened resulted in a performance of the season, 8-0 (EIGHT, as they said on Final score) a phenomenal display that wipes clear any worries from the FA Cup debacle.
Across the whole team there were MOTM performances, front to back; Ryan Croasdale scored two, including a header! Woots, Cotterill and Tanto managed one each but Paddy Madden bettered them all with his hat-trick.
At times it looked like we’d score with every attack we were so good.
Sutton contributed to their own downfall, their keeper Bouzanis had a nightmare and it was quite apparent that his defence and manager had lost all faith in him but that’s not to distract from our performance, it was a phenomenal showing and if we can reproduce it against Notts Co, Barrow, Bradford and Mansfield over the holiday period then the rest of the League may as well give up.
