Bredbury ace Jack to fore in 2024
STOCKPORT boxer Jack Murphy is celebrating finishing the year by winning his fourth professional contest in Bolton beating Harley Marginson and is now looking forward to stepping up to longer, more challenging bouts in 2024.
“I’m proud that in my four fights I haven’t yet lost a single round,” said Murphy. “And since turning pro in autumn 2022 I’ve proved that I can make progress, learning and adapting to different styles of opponents. My ambition is to climb the rankings of the lightweight division right to the very top.”
Twenty-two-year-old Bredbury resident Murphy was five times a north-west champion and twice a national amateur champion and as a youngster looked up to the famous Ricky Hatton as a role model. Now Hatton is in the corner for Murphy in his fights and trains him along with Blain Younis. Murphy is fortunate to be able to concentrate on boxing full time thanks to generous appreciated sponsorship from Premier Roofing, Pinnacle Player Performance and Made in Manchester Music Festival.
Murphy’s two older brothers are his top fans.
“We’ve always known that Jack had a special talent since he first laced up a pair of gloves aged 13 to represent his amateur club the Roy Richardson Academy,” said Ryan, 29.
“He’s courageous, never shied away from a challenge,” added Dean, 32, “Often winning fights elsewhere taken at very short notice. He’s our tough young hero.”
Former Werneth School student Murphy has at least four fights planned for 2024.
“I can’t imagine life without boxing,’ stated Murphy, “It’s given me everything. The opportunity to show everyone who I am and how good I can be. I’m looking forward to my first six-rounder in Bolton next March. My opponents should be aware that I fight to win and I’m coming to put on another decisive, clinical performance.”
