Kath rounds off tenure in style

BRAMHALL Lady Captain Kath Ince has enjoyed a great year of golf and sociabilit­y and it finished in style with the End of Season Team competitio­n followed by a Close of Season Dinner attended by 96 ladies.

It started with the ‘major’ trophy winners parading their trophies as they entered the room to Tina Turner’s ‘Simply the Best’ music.

Previously there had been a 13-hole and 9-hole pairs competitio­n with the pairs either representi­ng the Lady Captain or Lady Secretary Lynne Simpson’s team.

The 13-hole winners were Lynne Enoch and Annabel Proffitt with 33 and Paula Low and Joanna Moore won the 9-hole competitio­n with 39.

Kath Ince was delighted as her team won by a single point in the team competitio­n.

The season’s ‘major’ winners were: Rose Bowl Fiona Ellis, Lady Captain’s Prize Linda McKenzie, Captain’s prize Carol Coulson, President’s Prize Janet Jones, silver Jubilee Trophy Rosa Sheard, Diamond Jubilee Trophy Marureen Foster, Platinum Jubilee Trophy Frances Gell, Bronte Law Trophy Frances Gell, King Charles Coronation Trophy Judith Rose, Centennial Bowl Pat Marriott, Senior Ladies Bowl Angela Ellam, 36 hole winners Gold medal Laura Tonge, Challenge Bowl Ali Hicks.

The Wednesday Roll Up at Avro needed a cpo on 37 to take Andy Withington into top spot from Peter Hale five clear of Peter Wood.

Next day it was the Seniors Roll Up and Peter Walker led in with 24 from Mark Sweeting 32 and Ian Arthur 31.

The Assistant Pro’s Mixed Stableford at Hazel Grove was won by Duncan Cocker 35 from David Stewardson 32 and Stewart Morgans, Kenneth Thorman and Geraint John, all 31.

It was hot for Grove ladies in a Three ball Team Stableford with a cpo on 36 going in favour of C Jones, M Farrell and R Lupton from B Allen, W Milton and L Enderby and M Webley, D Wilson and V Waters, two clear of M Silcock, C Schofield and M Morley.

A Stableford for Marple ladies was won by Linda Rogers 18 from Anthea Keelan 16 and Karen Graham and Linda Wilton 10.

A Seniors Stableford at Marple had division one topped by John Wheeldon after a cpo on 23 with Walter Derry and Martin Burke, one more than David Davies.

In division two Derek Wilkie was out on his own with 25 from Graham Hallam 23 and David Jenkins and John Ashton, both 22.

It was also close in a midweek Stableford at Marple with Mike McPhee first past the post with 23 from Lewis Heath and Alan Fantom, both 22, and Jonathan Vaisey and Bob Allcock, both 21.

Reddish Vale’s men played a Greenkeepe­rs BB Stableford and it was close with B Graty and E Burke winning a cpo on 37 with N Crewdson and S Waite, one more than S Best and S Rourke, G Hughes and A Covell and S Mulvey and A Ord.

A Team of Four Stableford at Vale was won by J Ford, N Crewdson, M Short and S Waite with 67 from D Hamilton, C Davies, L Addison and M Fleet 66 and M Rawthore, S Best, N Griffiths and M Naeem 65.

A Three from Four Team Stableford at Vale had S Dickinson, D Breen, M Fleet and R Toye in a league of their own with 112 taking them 12 clear of D Flanagan, S Cole, G and D Briscoe and next in with 96 were T Collinson, I Thomason, C Davies and A Ord.

A Men’s Foursomes at Stockport had E Lloyd and M Rose as the proud winners with 38 just clear of K Allen and S Pickford and N Cox and T Heald, both 37, and D Black and A Thomson and G Torkington and N Russell, both 36.
