Stars book in for shop date
ARECENTLY opened bookshop is bringing awardwinning authors and screenwriters of blockbuster movies and TV shows to Romiley.
A number of highprofile names visit the town in visits organised by Serenity Booksellers including Shetland creator Ann Cleeves and Atomic Blonde author Antony Johnston.
January sees Johnston, author of box office hit Atomic Blonde starring Charlize Theron, gracing fans again in the bookshop with an in-person talk, book-signing and question and answer A session.
That will be followed in February by a signing with Frank CottrellBoyce, author of Millions, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again, co-writer of the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, plus many more accolades to his name.
Ann Cleeves will be joining Serenity Booksellers at St Pauls Parish, Compstall, to talk about her life and incredible career, having won many awards and written over 35 novels, some of which have been made into much-loved TV shows Vera, Shetland and The Long Call.
Also in March, C.K. McDonnell, a former comedian who has toured with the likes of Sarah Millican and Gary Delaney, will be in Romiley highlighting Relight my Fire, the latest in his hilarious Manchesterbased paranormal fantasy series, Stranger Times, with discussion and book signings.
The upcoming talks and signing are building on the success of events already under their wing, from book clubs and creating writing workshops, launching a Christmas crime novel of Marple author, Chris McDonald through to former Manchester City goalkeeper, Alex Williams captivating an audience for an evening, Serenity Booksellers are quickly becoming known for their engaging events.
Serenity Booksellers was set up in April 2023 by local wife and husband, Kelly and Chris Willocks.
Kelly said: “We’ve loved the local support we’ve received so far with our free and low-cost events, which is wonderful to see people coming together and socialising over a love of books and supports our goal of being an integral part of the community.”
