Performance belonging to higher level

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

WOW! Just wow! County’s performance on Saturday was simply phenomenal, from the first minute to the last, in every position, across every blade of grass.

Every battle was won, every pass, every run, every shot was just perfect, at times we were watching players playing so far above their League 2 status that I genuinely felt sorry for the Rovers players, they were simply out classed as to be embarrassed.

The first bit of good news was that MSH was back in the starting line up and that Sarce and Hippolyte were fit enough for the bench along with Rico Richards, the Aston Villa loanee.

We made changes to the starting line up with Paddy Madden and Nick Powell coming in for Ryan Croasdale and Neill Byrne, it was a much more attacking look and it has to be said that Chally got it right.

We started on fire and scored in the 5th minute when Paddy rose to head in a corner, if truth is told we could have been 3 up already such was the dominance.

Even at this early stage, Powell and Connor Evans were destroying the home side’s defence.

Five minutes later, the lead was doubled when Connor Lemonheigh Evans had a goal bound shot headed in by a Donny defender. Connor got his just deserts on the half hour mark, another corner and another header.

County were running riot. Powell hit the post with a beautiful shot from the outside of the area.

Evans and Callum Camps were taunting the home midfield, we were on fire.

Could we better the Sutton score?

The second half was just seconds old when Doncaster hearts were broken and any thoughts of a comeback were well and truly dashed as MSH raced away down the right wing and found Paddy with a sumptuous cross, 4-0.

Not long after Tanto, who’d not stopped running all afternoon got his name on the score sheet with an acrobatic diving header, it was no less than he deserved.

Donny managed to get one back but most of the 7,469 in the home end had already left by then and there was still 30 minutes to play.

We made changes, Sarce, Hippo, Touray (back from the Africa Cup of Nations) and Rico came on, not surprisingly we lost some momentum but at 5-1 the game was won and, thanks to Mansfield, Barrow and Crewe all dropping points, our lead at the top has increased, long may it continue.
