Woman rescued after car ‘flips onto roof’

-

A WOMAN was rescued from a car that ‘flipped over onto its roof’ in a crash on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services swarmed Ladybridge Road in Cheadle Hulme after the collision involving two vehicles.

Fire crews cordoned off the road and used specialist equipment to free the woman from the car.

Greater Manchester Police and paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) were also in attendance.

One witness who drove past the collision said: “It was on its roof and looked like it had been completely engulfed in flames.

“It looked really bad, there were lots of police and fire engines.”

Local councillor David Meller posted on social media: “I’ve just received a message about an accident just now near Alderdale Road - Cllr Lane/Ladybridge junction with a car ending up on its roof. I really hope no-one’s been hurt.

“As you may know, we’re trying to convince the council to finally do some work on that junction but I’m obviously unsure if that’s the cause or indeed what the cause is: I don’t want to set any rumours going.”

Greater Manchester Police did not provide a statement on the incident but it is understood injuries sustained were not life-threatening.

Buses were diverted temporarily before the road later reopened.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 3pm this afternoon (Monday 5th February), two fire engines from Stockport Central and Cheadle fire station, along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton, were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Ladybridge Road, Cheadle Hulme.

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene, where one of the vehicles was overturned. Firefighters used stabilisation and road traffic collision equipment to rescue one woman from the overturned vehicle and make the vehicle safe. Firefighters were in attendance for around one hour.”
