COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE

- BY IAN BROWN

COUNTY ‘history is full of colourful ‘larger than life’ characters and this week saw the Supporters Cooperative attract two such heroes to headline their latest event.

Osher Williams and Tommy Sword travelled down to The Loft at Stockport Gin for our ‘Evening with Osher Williams & Tommy Sword.’

Both were firm favourites with County fans, Osher from 1979 to 1984 when his exciting wing play captured the crowd’s imaginationscoring 31 goals in 216 appearances for County, captaining the side on occasions. Osher a PFA official, remains well respected and is a regular visitor to Edgeley Park.

Tommy, a County player from 1979 to 1986, netted 55 times from 270 games, but that bald statistic misses the point that Tommy, signed as a centre forward, was converted to centre half, a position that he again excelled in scoring vital goals for the blues, perhaps the best remembered being his brilliant penalty against Sunderland at Roker Park that saw County beat the Division 1 side 2-1 in the FA Cup .

Osher and Tommy always gave 100 per cent and were loved for it in return by County supporters and it was great that they both were able to join us at the Loft which was packed to the rafters Club President Steve Bellis set the evening going to a burst of applause that seemed to last the whole evening!

The obvious rapport between Osher and Tommy was mirrored throughout the room where County supporters hung on their every word.

It was a terrific evening and even better to have ace County defender Paul Jones with us along with Dave Booth whose many talents are still remembered by those lucky enough to see him play.

Watch out for news of a raft of further events of this ilk in the coming months!
