MSH injury big concern for Hatters

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

I MUST admit that I was surprised at how good Harrogate Town were on Saturday.

Yes they were the form team in the league, especially away from home but their last three wins were at Grimsby, Sutton and Forest Green, three teams in the bottom five, so their form could be temporary.

In the back of my mind was the 3-1 win we had at Wetherby Road back in October.

We were on fire while they were average at best but on Saturday, Simon Weaver had his team playing some lovely football and, for the first 20 minutes at least, they were a real threat.

Their goal came after some intricate passing that left our defence bewildered; it was no more than the visitors deserved.

We’re made of strong stuff though and it didn’t take too long before we managed to get to grips with the Yorkshire side and scored an equaliser.

Macauley SouthamHales was starting to get the better of his man and after a surging run his cross was low and hard and it fell just right for Connor Lemonheigh Evans to get his foot to it and score his second in two games, (Connor has been a revelation since his return from AFC Wimbledon and long may his form continue).

From there you would have expected us to go on and win the game, comfortably!

We managed Harrogate and kept them to the odd wayward shot from distance and when they did manage to run with the ball our defence kept calm and snuffed out anything that came near our penalty box.

The problem was that at the other end of the pitch they were largely doing the same.

Myles Hippolyte had a couple of shots that stung the fingers of the Town keeper but there were several times when we made the wrong decision, we were trying to be too intricate when a more direct approach could have been a better choice.

Nick Powell, so good at Doncaster the week before, didn’t seem to have the right boots on, a player of incredible skill just couldn’t find that killer pass.

The result wasn’t the worse and other results didn’t really harm us but the loss of MSH possibly could.

It looked like a freak accident, there didn’t appear to be anyone else involved but it’s the third serious injury of the season for the Genius from Wales, has there ever been an unluckier player?
