Strange old week to be County fan

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

WHAT a weird week it’s been.

Not playing on Tuesday when everyone else did and then playing on a Thursday night for the TV cameras really messed with my head.

I woke up on Friday thinking it was a Wednesday and subsequently each day after became, well, the day after that and then we had a free Saturday as we were at Crawley on Monday, all because Sky TV think they know best!

The League Two footballing week started on the previous Tuesday and what a set of results there were, Mansfield and MK Dons both lost, while Barrow and Wrexham both drew.

The only team around us that bagged three points were Cheshire rivals Crewe, our position in the table strengthened. Yes we were now third but with two games in hand we could regain top spot, our destiny was once again in our own hands.

The first of those games was at the Peninsula Stadium against relegation threatened, Salford City.

They’ve had a managerial change recently (when have they not?) with Karl Robinson trying to steady the Ammies’ ship. They’ve had a few draws and their form over the past 10 games or so is significantly better than other clubs around them at the bottom of the table still, in all honesty, this sould be an easy three points, surely!

We arrived nice and early as the Flyer met very little traffic around the M60, so a pint and a Spring Roll (never seen another club serve Spring Rolls at their food kiosks) before choosing our spot on the terrace.

We were there early but it appears the team didn’t as they only started playing once the second half had begun!

It might sound like I’m being petulant but this was the proverbial “game of two halves”. In the first 45 minutes we allowed ourselves to be bullied and over-run, the referee didn’t help (he was as bad as we’ve seen but he was bad for both sides) we shouldn’t blame him though, we couldn’t cope with Salford’s tactics or their cheating.

At the end of the half we were 2-0 down to a wonder strike and a possible off-side header, with only a shot from Paddy Madden to shout about.

What a contrast in the second though, the introduction of Rico Richards and Todd Kane turned the game on its head.

A goal from Ibou Touray on 51 minutes and then another from Tanto on 64 brought us right back into the game and rescued a point that at half time we’d all have been happy with but on reflection it was a game we should have won, we’re still fighting though and our future is still very much in our own hands.
