Club welcomes Bill for ‘level playing field’
STOCKPORT County Football Club has joined the EFL in welcoming the arrival of the Football Governance Bill in Parliament.
A statement on the club’s website read: ‘Creating a level playing field, where clubs throughout the EFL get a fair distribution of funds is key to the long-term financial sustainability of the EFL. For too long the beautiful game has been broken by an outdated financial model.
‘Establishing an Independent Football Regulator with powers to create positive change, help redistribute finance and ensure professional clubs continue to serve their communities is imperative to Football’s long-term stability.
‘Football clubs are a key pillar to the local community that they serve, so we fully support the bill’s aim to improve governance and provide all clubs with a fair and competitive environment where everyone can thrive in the future.’
EFL Chair Rick Parry said: “The EFL welcomes the arrival of the Football Governance Bill to Parliament in what we hope will be an important milestone to help us secure the long-term financial sustainability of England’s football pyramid. If delivered on the right terms, this landmark legislation can help fix the game’s broken financial model by offering the independent input ultimately needed to help ensure that all Clubs can survive and thrive in a fair and competitive environment.
“The League looks forward to contributing to that Review while simultaneously working with EFL Clubs, Parliamentarians, and officials to ensure that the Football Governance Bill is fit for purpose and can deliver the best regulatory regime to safeguard our game for generations.”
