ARMED police descended on a street in Stockport on Thursday morning after a Land Rover was ‘smashed up with a crowbar’ and a man was stabbed.

The violent scenes erupted on the A6 in Heaviley, Stockport, shortly before 10am.

Horrified witnesses described the moment a man was seen shouting and striking the car with a crowbar as another bleeding man ran across the street.

Police were called to reports of a ‘disturbance’, with armed officers also in attendance and an air ambulance landing nearby.

A cordon was erected outside a tattoo shop with police tape surrounding the damaged 4x4.

One witness, who asked to remain anonymous, said a ‘stocky’ man was seen smashing the windows of the car with a crowbar ‘one by one’ while shouting.

Another man, who was bleeding and appeared to be holding his arm, was crossing the road.

“At first, I saw someone running from across the road. Another guy came out shouting and he had a crowbar,” they said.

“While he ran across the road, the other guy was smashing the windows of the Land Rover that was parked outside.

“They were getting put through one by one while he was shouting. Looked like some sort of dispute.”

Another witness told the Express that swathes of police ‘with assault rifles’ alongside ‘multiple ambulances’ arrived at the scene minutes later.

An air ambulance also landed nearby.

Police tape remained in place around the tattoo shop for a number of hours amid investigations. Forensics also attended the scene before the car was recovered.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed one man was taken to hospital for stab injuries before he, and another male, were arrested. One of the suspects was arrested on suspicion of affray and the other for assault.

A force spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of a disturbance at a shop on the A6 in Heaviley, Stockport, at around 9:50am today (21/3/24).

“One man required hospital treatment for stab injuries and a vehicle was damaged during the incident.

“Two men, including the injured party, have been arrested, one on suspicion of affray and the other for assault. Officers are treating this as an isolated incident.”
