IT’S a double delight for Stockport as Stockport Council and Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation have been shortlisted for the prestigious MJ and Pineapple Awards.

It follows on from previous nominations this year for Stockport Council at the LGC, iNetwork, and Purple Flag Awards.

The MJ Awards acknowledge the efforts of local governments to support local communities facing diverse challenges and difficulties. Stockport Council has been shortlisted in the following categories:

l Senior Leadership Team. This category recognises teams that reflect outstanding leadership and nurture collaborative solutions in managing day-to-day responsibilities at local governments.

l Innovation in Partnerships. Stockport’s cross-sector DigiKnow alliance has been shortlisted as an innovative partnership tackling digital exclusion.

l Leadership in responding to the Climate Emergency. The council’s Climate Action Now (CAN) team has been recognised for the important work they are doing towards a carbon-neutral borough.

l Rising Star. Liz Atherton from the CAN team has been shortlisted.

But the good news doesn’t stop there. The Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation has also been shortlisted for the Pineapple Awards Place in Progress category.

The Pineapple Awards are curated in partnership with industry publication The Developer and Design Council.

They celebrate unique places people want to live in or visit, and this is an excellent achievement given all the great regeneration work that has taken place in the borough over the past year.

Celebrating the double shortlisting, Caroline Simpson, Stockport Council chief executive, said: “We’re delighted to be recognised for the hard work that goes into delivering the best for our borough and the people who live here.

“We’re committed to making Stockport a borough of opportunity and a place everyone is proud to call home.”
