Pub is transformed by stunning artwork

-

A POPULAR Stockport pub has been given a transformation featuring graffiti walls paying homage to the local area and a huge mural outside inspired by the works of L. S. Lowry.

The Rising Sun pub in Hazel Grove has been given a refurbishment where the venue has been daubed with stunning artwork from renowned local street artist Jano, of Graffiti painters, featuring references to Stockport and the north including mentions of local band Blossoms and the Hacienda nightclub.

Now reopened to the public, the venue also features a huge Stockport-inspired mural painted across the exterior walls, which has been designed by Jano in the style of L. S. Lowry. The artist, who is a regular at the pub, has previously created a mural of Sir Bobby Charlton at The Trafford pub, near the Old Trafford stadium.

“Jano was given free rein to bring life to the outside of the pub, with the idea to take inspiration from Lowry’s art style and to incorporate local landmarks and heritage,” Julie Bowers, Manager of the Rising Sun, said.

“We had always thought the exterior of the pub didn’t do it justice. Given the iconic location of the pub, we wanted something that would really stand out. The external mural took three days to complete, and Jano spent a similar time inside creating even more amazing murals.

“All of the landmarks and buildings are instantly recognisable and the locals are already talking about them.” Inside, the pub features a quirky blend of street art and graffiti set alongside a cosy traditional pub setting.

Since unveiling the new look at the weekend, Julie and the pub staff say they have been inundated with comments from impressed punters about the transformation.
