Locals wanted to champion Crieff’s cause
Plea for community council members
Being a community councillor is interesting and varied Marnie Gauld
An urgent call has been issued for civic-minded Strath capital residents to bolster the ranks of Crieff Community Council.
The group currently consists of five people following last month’s resignation of seven members – including all four of its office-bearers.
The start of a fresh chapter will be heralded with announcement of a date for an emergency general meeting (EGM), which will see key positions such as chair, vice-chair, secretary and treasurer filled by new faces.
And, prior to the date for the gathering being announced, current community councillor Marnie Gauld issued an appeal for anyone wishing to become involved with the group to throw their hat into the ring.
Well-known local resident Marnie said: “The community council’s recent losses are regrettable, but understandable. The loyalty shown to the chair and secretary is commendable and appreciated. I would like to publicly thank them all for their hard work over the years and I’m sure those concerned will continue to promote and benefit Crieff in their different ways.”
She continued: “There is still work to be done, however, and I also appreciate the five remaining community councillors and thank them for their continued hard work.
“We will shortly attend an EGM, called by a local ward councillor, where we need to elect office-bearers. As long as all five community councillors are present at a meeting, a quorum is made and we can proceed with community council – but we are hopeful there are more people out there who have an interest in contributing to the representation of the local community to Perth and Kinross Council, and to hopefully making a difference to people’s lives in the grand old town of Crieff.”
Marnie added: “The community council is the only body with statutory rights of representation to the local authority. Being a community councillor is interesting and varied. We listen and act openly, with integrity at all times, for the benefit of the common good of the local community, mindful of Crieff’s long-established civic motto – ‘Justice, Fidelity, Truth’.”
It is understood a date for the EGM will be announced once the Strathearn ward’s three elected representatives – councillors Ann Cowan, Rhona Brock and Anne Younger – return from a period of annual leave.
