Community player is part of Crieff Gathering

-

Community is key at the annual Crieff Highland Gathering, one of Scotland’s longest-running Highland Games and an event that attracts thousands of locals and tourists each year.

So when Miller Hendry was asked to be part of the Gathering it was hard to say no.

With an office in Crieff, the solicitors and property firm is a community player too, offering its legal advice and estate agency services to a town that prides itself on its kinship and camaraderie.

In the words of this year’s chieftain, golf professional David Murchie: “This event is exactly what it says – a gathering. It’s a meeting of people, and the term gather is a very apt one in that respect.”

At the Gathering later this month, the Highland Games, dancing, competition and music will include the Miller Hendry-sponsored tug o’ war.

The event will gather teams of eight people who will compete over the best of three ends. The tugging can get forceful, which is why the event is being held at the Duchlage side of the football pitch.

The organisers want to save the pitch’s surface from getting damaged.

The Crieff Highland Gathering dates back to 1870. Miller Hendry’s history goes back even further, to the 18th century and Perth legal firm J and J Miller.

Miller Hendry is the result of several mergers of prominent firms in Dundee, Perth and Crieff, where Miller Hendry now operates.

Today those practices dispense advice on everything from wills and trusts to business and employment to divorce.

Meanwhile, Miller Hendry’s property team helps sellers and buyers from valuation right through to completion. It’s always a good sign when people stick around in a job and at Miller Hendry’s Crieff office they tend not to budge.

The eight staff, including two solicitors, three property shop staff and three office/ administrative staff, have a combined 90 years of service between them in an office that has been around since 1998.

And, like the rest of the town, they’re buzzing about the Gathering.

As well as seeking skilled and approachable staff, the firm looks for people who share Miller Hendry’s values, says chairman John Thom. These include a strong sense of giving back. “Hopefully the public knows us from our legal and property work, but people also know us because of how active our staff is in their local communities.

“That might be running a race for charity or buying strips for a local football team or, as is the case in Crieff, lending our support to the Highland Gathering.”

The Crieff Highland Gathering takes place on August 21. For more details on the event visit www. crieffhighlandgathering.com For further information on Miller Hendry visit www.millerhendrysolicitors.co.uk.
