No talks on 2018 Ryder Cup switch
Security officials in the US have suggested Gleneagles could hold next year’s Ryder Cup in the wake of terror incidents in France, it has been reported.
The tournament is due to be held at a venue on the outskirts Paris in 2018, but reports suggest that US representatives have looked at a move away from France because of the heightened security matters.
France has been placed at ‘state of emergency’ level since the Charlie Hebdo killings and Bataclan massacre in Paris, both of which happened in 2015.
Gleneagles is due to host the first ever European Golf Team Championships in 2018.
A spokesperson for Gleneagles confirmed there had been no approach over the Ryder Cup, while tourism agency VisitScotland said that there had been no discussions “about any contigency plans to stage the 2018 Ryder Cup in Scotland”.
