Statement confirms plotting by Germans

-

A Berlin official statement admits the plot to bring Mexico and Japan into the war against the United States.

It states that“it was not only right, but also the duty of the Government, to take precautions in time, in the event of a warlike conflict with the United States, in order to balance, if possible, the adhesion to our new enemies of a new enemy.” In his address to the Senate, US President Wilson said the United States had been deeply wronged, and the situation had become intolerable.

They stood firm for armed neutrality, but they might be drawn into more active assertion of their rights and more immediate association with the great struggle itself.

There could be no turning back, he said, as their fortunes as a nation were involved. There have been demonstrations in New York At a meeting held in the Carnegie Hall, New York, a resolution was passed urging the president“to take whatever action may be required to assure the immediate participation of the United States in the necessary task of protecting neutral lives and neutral commerce by clearing from the seas the piratical submarines of the German Navy.”

There were more 3000 people present and the names of the Kaiser and Herr Zimmermann were hissed by a large number of those gathered to hear the outcome of the resolution being put to President Wilson. Elsewhere, good news still comes from Mesopotamia as the British cavalry are within 14 miles of Baghdad.
