Capercaillie fiddler Charlie explores world of music
Charlie McKerron and Friends will be appearing in Crieff next weekend.
Charlie, the fiddle player with renowned traditional Scots act Capercaillie, has been playing with Marc Clement and Tim Edey for more than 15 years.
They bring a world music backdrop to many of McKerron’s compositions
Charlie said: “The combination of the two guitar styles of Edey and Clement are electric and can only inspire and make you want to play”.
As well as their guitars you can expect to hear the powerful voice of Marc Clement and Tim Edey’s skill on the melodeon.
And Ross Ainslie has introduced piping and whistle to the outfit.
The combo say no night is the same as there is improvisation thrown in.
“I love the freedom within the music,” said Ross Ainslie.
Charlie is currently working on a solo CD which features this line- up with contributions from other Celtic and world musicians.
The gig at the Famous Grouse Experience on Saturday, April 1, from 8pm is a chance to hear some of the music that will feature on the recording.
“These intimate gigs are the perfect way to introduce some of our new music,” added Charlie, “and I think a wee dram might also be in order.”
The last time this line-up appeared in the Strath it was to a sell-out audience in Comrie.
Tickets are £12.50 plus booking fee from www.eventbrite.com.
