Community causes share in bumper payout
Six Strath community groups have bagged a big funding boost from the Co-op.
When members of the Co- op buy own-brand products from food stores or a funeral plan from Funeralcare, they receive a five per cent reward for themselves with a further one per cent going to local good causes. And the one per cent rewards, plus the proceeds of the carrier bag charge, have resulted in a £27,500 payout in Crieff and Auchterarder.
In the Strath capital Friends of MacRosty Park pulled in £ 6018.61, with 5th Perthshire - Crieff Scout Group and Crieff Juniors Football Club netting £5705.98 and £5545.29 respectively.
Lang Toon recipients were 1st Auchterarder Brownies who picked up £3355.54; Friends of Aytoun Hall with £3455.74 and Ochil Tower School which secured £3442.89.

A defibrillator has been installed at Fowlis Wester.
Residents have been raising money for the life-saving equipment through the village’s annual plant sale and other activities and the community recently took possession of the defibrillator.
Over 40 locals also attended a training session, laid on by Albacare Ltd, in relevant first aid drills.
Supervisor of the purchase Morag Lindsay said: “It has been a project well worth seeing through for the good of everyone.”
Jim McColl, who installed the defibrillator, added: “The defibrillator is now fitted on an external wall of the village hall accessible to everyone in an emergency.”
Fowlis Wester is holding its next plant sale on May 20, with this year’s proceeds going towards the upkeep of the village hall.
