Duo stepping out for heart charity
Glasgow to Edinburgh trek by fundraisers
Former Crieff High School depute headteacher Frances Graham and friend Hazel Johnstone have signed up for a considerable challenge.
They are walking 100km from Glasgow to Edinburgh on July 22 and 23 as part of a British Heart Foundation-organised event.
The challenge needs to be completed within 30 hours, starting at 8am on the Saturday.
Walking day and night, the duo will experience stunning views, dark pathways, moonlit canals and shadowy tunnels in the unforgettable adventure.
They will pass numerous landmarks and sites along the route, including Kelvingrove Museum and Park, locks on the Forth and Clyde canal, the Falkirk Wheel and Linlithgow Palace, before arriving in Scotland’s capital.
Frances told the Herald: “The Glasgow to Edinburgh Trek is the only one run by a charity, for a charity, so all fundraising goes directly to the British Heart Foundation.
“This is an important charity for us, as in September 2015 Hazel was taken ill and diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy.
“Now, 18 months on, after a series of medical interventions, she is now able to undertake this challenge. Funding for research is vital to continue identifying causes and developing treatment programmes to reduce the impact of heart conditions.”
On Friday this week, the pair are also hosting a fundraising bingo tea in the RBLS Clubrooms in Crieff. Doors open at 7pm. If you can’t make it along on the night, you can still help out by donating at: www.justgiving.com/ HazelAndFrances-LongWalk
