Champs night honours stars
Sporting heroes will be recognised
Crieff’ s young sports stars will be recognised next month.
This year’s Night of Champions, hosted by the PE department of Crieff High School, takes place on Wednesday, June 14, at 7pm.
The evening takes the form of a talk by an inspirational sports person, which in the past has included Commonwealth Games medal winners and Olympians, followed by an awards ceremony and a barbecue.
And this year popular figure Ben Murphy will be returning to his old school to give the talk and present the awards.
Active Schools coordinator Nick Keiller told the Herald: “The Night of Champions at Crieff High School is now in its sixth year.
“The aim of the night is to celebrate sporting achievements of all pupils at Crieff High School, with a range of awards presented throughout the evening.
“This year the guest speaker is Ben Murphy an ex- Crieff High School pupil who has overcome enormous challenges in his life to continue in his sporting endeavours.
“Ben is a truly inspirational young sportsman.
“After a barbecue and opportunities to mingle, Ben will present the ‘Most Improved Player’, ‘Players Player’ awards and other special sporting awards.”
The Most Improved Player award has been voted for by club and school coaches, taking account of players’ ability, leadership, commitment, team spirit and enthusiasm.
The Players’ Player award is voted for by pupils and team players, who were asked to nominate their peers using the criteria of commitment, inspiration and motivation.
There will also be Special Sporting Awards for pupils who have been nominated by their parents, peers, teachers and coaches.
The award winners are being recognised for their endeavours through the presentation of these awards for their involvement in sport and physical activity at either county, district, national and /or international levels.
