Praise for care home manager
Hard working Jozi Stables is finalist in national awards
A Strath- based care home manager is celebrating after being named a finalist in this year’s Scottish Care Awards.
Jozi Stables, who is the manager at the Balhouse Ruthven Towers care home in Auchterarder, was recommended for the innovative practice award due to her “infectious enthusiasm” and her willingness to try new working methods, as well as for putting people at the centre of her care.
The awards recognise the work done by organisations and individuals across Scotland’s care and nursing industry.
Jozi, who became the youngest care home manager within the Balhousie group when she took over Ruthven Towers last year at the age of 26, said: “I am thrilled to reach the finals of the Scottish Care Awards. It means a lot to be recognised by our peers for the work we are doing at Ruthven Towers.
“Our success is very much a team effort, however, I couldn’t have achieved this nomination without the support of my colleagues and managers at Balhousie.”
Since Jozi became care home manager, the residents have become more involved in how the home is run, and are able to have their say on issues such as staff recruitment, home decor and furnishings, and menu plans.
Over the past year, staff turnover rates have reduced under Jozi’s leadership, while occupancy rates at Ruthven Towers have increased to 73 per cent.
Louise Barnett, operations director for Balhousie care group, added: “We are delighted to see Jozi’s efforts recognised by this nomination.
“Innovation is critical to the continuing success of any organisation, and Jozi’s caring and personcentred approach to care is an excellent example of Balhousie’s ‘Together We’re Great’ philosophy.”
