April •An ex­hi­bi­tion at Com­rie Li­brary by Strath-based artist He­len McCrorie used films and ar­chives to ex­plore mem­o­ries, in­spired by those who lost fam­ily pho­tographs in the Com­rie floods. The show­case was part of the week-long Plat­form fes­ti­val.

• Auchter­arder’s So­phie Maher won gold at the Bri­tish Show Pony So­ci­ety’s spring show. The 12-year-old qual­i­fied to com­pete at the Burgh­ley Horse Tri­als in Lin­colnshire.

•Eight in­trepid teams of oars­men and women took part in the 2017 Great Loch Earn Boat Race or­gan­ised by Cri­eff Round Ta­ble. The win­ners of the Loch Earn Quaich were the Aus­trian Down­hill Squad.

May •A price­less col­lec­tion of rare books is to stay in the Strath thanks to a re­mark­ably gen­er­ous do­na­tion. The Li­brary of In­ner­p­ef­fray has re­ceived, over the past three years, sev­eral hun­dred vol­umes of clas­sic Scot­tish first edi­tions dat­ing back to the 16th cen­tury – ad­ding to the fan­tas­tic col­lec­tion al­ready in the li­brary.

• First Min­is­ter Ni­cola Stur­geon vis­ited Auchter­arder on the gen­eral elec­tion cam­paign trail with Ochil and South Perthshire con­stituency can­di­date Tas­mina Ahmed-Sheikh.

•Cri­eff teenager Siu­saidh John­ston raised £2000 for Ber­tie Bus at a bingo tea night in the town’s Royal Bri­tish Le­gion Scot­land clu­b­rooms.

June • Strath man John McDon­ald scooped a sil­ver award at the world­fa­mous Chelsea Flower Show. John was com­pet­ing in a cat­e­gory ti­tled ‘Des­ti­na­tion Un­known’ in the flo­ral de­sign area of the pres­ti­gious show.

•The life and gal­lantry of Com­rie war hero John Man­son Craig was recog­nised in the vil­lage as crowds gath­ered to watch the un­veil­ing of a stone at the war me­mo­rial.

•Two prom­i­nent Cri­eff res­i­dents were recog­nised in the Queen’s Birth­day Hon­ours List. High­land Gath­er­ing stal­wart Ste­vie Ry­der and farmer Jim McLaren were re­warded with MBEs for work in their re­spec­tive fields.

•A ma­jor po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tion got un­der way af­ter rob­bers es­caped with thou­sands of pounds worth of watches in a raid at the Gle­nea­gles Ho­tel. Three armed men walked into the Map­pin and Webb jew­ellery out­let at the fives­tar re­sort and car­ried out the rob­bery in front of shocked staff and guests.
