Strath railways display

-

A free exhibition at the Old Town Hall in Crieff will give an insightful look at what life was like in the Strath when the trains and railway lines were a major feature of the area.

Running from November 8 to 16, Strathearn Railways Exhibition is being curated by Crieff and Strathearn Museum Group.

Visitors can find out why the railways were so important to the local community or see what it was like to be a passenger on a steam train.

There will be plenty of pictures and memorabilia on show as well as some computer game footage that features Crieff Station and a train puffing through.

The group is also inviting visitors to bring along any train related objects and share their memories of the railway lines in Strathearn.

Ann McIntosh, secretary of Crieff and Strathearn Museum Group, told the Herald: “We are really excited about it as we think there are lots of interesting things that will be on show.

“It will definitely have a flavour of how life used to be in the old days, and how Crieff was helped by having a railway bringing people here for holidays.

“Crieff was quite a rail hub with lines coming in from both Perth and Gleneagles, and then the line going on up to Comrie and the Highlands beyond.

“We have invited several people to come along on Saturday morning who are related to people who used to be employed by the railways, or descendants of them, so hopefully there will be some happy reunions!”

The exhibition is open daily from 10am to 4pm, except November 10 when it will be open from 2pm to 4pm.

Crieff and Strathearn Group is currently seeking suitable premises to house a permanent museum worthy of the 21st Century, while continuing to put on popup events and exhibitions locally.
