Man who took LSD lashed out in hospital Violent behaviour and hallucinations

-

“Police travelled with him in the rear of the ambulance and on his arrival at hospital he was taken to a side room so as not to disturb other patients due to him hallucinating,” explained depute fiscal Tina Dickie.

But when a doctor arrived to examine him, Swider became aggressive and started shouting.

Ms Dickie continued: “He was struggling, lashing out and trying to rip off his leg braces and had to be restrained on the hospital bed by officers.

“He continued to thrash about and tried to get off the bed. Police again had to hold him down and other units were requested to assist. Eventually four officers had to restrain him and he had to be taken to Ninewells.”

His violent behaviour continued and ultimately he had to be sedated.

“Some time after - it doesn’t say when - he was released from hospital and police custody,” added Ms Dickie.

Solicitor Pauline Cullerton said that her client was a first offender and she submitted several testimonial letters in his support.

She added that he would “take no issue” with carrying out unpaid work.

Imposing a Community Payback Order, Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told Swider: “It may be that you took an illicit substance but that’s no excuse – it may be an explanation.

“The fact of the matter is that this behaviour cannot be tolerated.”

Swider, of Old Croft Place, Aberdeen, will have to complete 140 hours of work – as a direct alternative to prison – within the next eight months.
