St Johnstone WFC looked back on the season at their annual prizegiving night.

McDiarmid Park played host to an evening of entertainment on Friday last week before the awards were dished out by the Perth side’s management.

Manager Jason McCrindle’s player of the year award went to defender Rhee Tweedie, while Scotland youth international Rebecca McGowan won coaches’ player of the year.

Nicole Carter was presented with young player of the year and players’ player of the year went to Rachel Todd.

The goal of the season accolade was collected by striker Ellie May Cowie for her neat, lobbed, finish against Hamilton on home soil.

Skipper Jade McDonald – from Auchterarder – was the club’s top goalscorer.

She said: “You always focus on the season and sometimes don’t take a minute.

“So it’s good to have an event like this which is light-hearted and everyone can relax. We reminisced about the season.

“It was a learning curve for us and we brought in a couple of new players. Hopefully next season we can get the results we deserve.

“In this league, when you turn up, it’s about how much you want it.

“We’ve taken points off top teams and know what we can do.”

Players will be given time off over the Christmas period before the hard work continues ahead of next season.

Saints finished their Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 campaign with a spring in their step following a 10- 0 home win over Hutchison Vale towards the end of last month.

Despite a strong finish to the season, winning four of their last seven games, the Perth side ended the campaign second bottom of the SWPL 2 table.

“Everything we’ve been doing over the last couple of months has been geared towards finishing the season well, with a view to having some momentum to take into the new season,” McCrindle said.

“Based on the ambitions at the start of the season, it’s fair to say that we haven’t achieved what we had hoped.

“The vast majority of the performances themselves have been good but the results haven’t. Although the last couple of months have seen an improvement in that regard.

“Although we’ve taken points from every team this season, we have a small squad and definitely need to bring in some new faces for next season.

“So, with that in mind, we have already started planning for next season and have been speaking to a number of signing targets.
