Santa’s PO is really first-class
Young visitors give stamp of approval to festive project
Thousands of special deliveries are expected to be made in Crieff over the next few weeks at an exclusive postal service which opened in James Square on Saturday.
The only one of its kind in Scotland, Santa’s Post Office has been set up by Crieff Succeeds.
And already hundreds of children from across the country have been through the doors to personally deliver their letters to Father Christmas in time for December 25.
Once inside the children can write and decorate their letters before posting them in a big red letterbox, after which they press a button to send it on its way to the North Pole.
The children can then have a chat with Mrs Claus, who has taken up residence in her big armchair to oversee proceedings.
Crieff Succeeds manager David McCann commented: “The opening weekend of Santa’s Post Office was great.
“The level of interest and length of queue before it opened showed how it has caught people’s imagination.
“Over the two days we welcomed more than 700 people from all over the country and are looking forward to welcoming many more over the next few weeks.”
Mr McCann thanked everyone who had helped bring about the unique facility.
He continued: “I think it’s important to recognise that every business who is a levy payer has contributed to making this post office possible and that this project wouldn’t have happened without their financial backing.
“I’d also like to thank everyone else for their enthusiastic support for the project which helped turn this idea into a reality.
“There was a real buzz in James Square on Saturday and I’m looking forward to seeing it like that again next Saturday when Santa comes to town!”
Mrs Claus has been enjoying meeting post office visitors.
She declared: “All the children have been an absolute delight. One even fell asleep on my knee. Another came to see me dressed as an elf. It is wonderful being here and meeting them all.
“And although Santa is very busy just now, he will be dropping by on Saturday from 10am to check in on his post office – along with some of his reindeer.”
