Issues to be aired at workshop
Air quality and safety talks
“The meeting was very positive and we will continue the dialogue into the new year, at which time there will also be a public meeting to further discuss these important issues.
“The various stakeholders who have raised concerns around this topic will be active in conveying them to the representative agencies.”
Neil Macfarlane is an area manager with Transport Scotland.
In an email to Mr Finlay, seen by the Herald, Mr Macfarlane states: “The meeting [hosted by Mr McCann] was very useful and the main outcome was that PKC intends to hold a public workshop early next year, with Transport Scotland in attendance, with the general remit being the environment and improving the town as the main concept.”
It continues: “It is important to look at matters such as road safety and air quality – which is of particular concern to PKC – in the round and realise they are part of a larger challenge.
“In the highly unlikely event road safety is not raised as an issue during the workshop, I can assure you that Transport Scotland will continue to monitor it on an ongoing basis and intervene when and where our procedures dictate.”
A spokesperson for the local authority told the Herald: “Perth and Kinross Council environmental health officers attended a meeting on November 1 with Crieff Succeeds and Transport Scotland, regarding Crieff’s Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP).
“Arrangements are in progress for the proposed joint public meeting which will take place in early 2020.
“The venue and date for the meeting will be confirmed in due course.”
The council representative continued: “The focus of the public meeting will be on the improvement measures linked to the AQAP for Crieff and related matters, and we will be inviting local residents and businesses to give their views and comment on any potential proposals for the town centre area, following on from previous consultation activity.”
