Author pays tribute to well-known David

the depths of the Sma’ Glen.

David and Margaret took full advantage of their retirement enjoying their precious garden, taking long walks and with two lovely grandchildren to bless their lives, all seemed perfect.

Son Neil was building a new home and David was keen to see the final build.

He was concerned about his health and the diagnosis wasn’t promising.

When he was planting onions for the winter he said to Margaret: “I’ll only plant one row Margaret, for you.”

With the help of modern medicine and a strong determination, David was pleased to see the lovely family home his son had built.

His condition deteriorated, hospital beckoned and on the day he left he turned to Margaret and said: “Remember to water the tomatoes.”

David was my dear friend. He helped tremendously by promoting my books and spreading the titles near and far. When my first book was published he and Margaret kindly offered to launch it in the shop.

They decked a small area with flowers, served cake and spread a little table with a tartan tablecloth.

I was gifted a special pen and the warmest welcome any budding author could want.

It was as close to home as I could wish for.

The shop assistants were like family and David gave me the boost I needed to feel confident in my work and to never give up a dream.

I loved that little shop for many reasons and I shall always remember whenever I rushed in with some sort of problem or other David would say: “Away through the back and put the kettle on.”

He had a way of calming any situation. Thanks David, I owe you a lot, old friend.
