Queen’s Award is just the business

Firms are urged to put themselves forward

- DOUGLAS DICKIE

It would be fantastic to see some of the outstanding local businesses rewarded Stephen Leckie

Strath firms have been encouraged to throw their hat in the ring for a prestigious business award.

Crieff’s Stephen Leckie is the Lord Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross and it is well-known that one of the duties the role entails includes putting forward individuals for honours such as those included on the Honours’ list.

However, it is also possible for businesses to nominate themselves for the business equivalent – the Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

And Stephen, who is also president of the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, is keen to see local businesses rewarded for their contribution to commerce.

With that in mind, he encouraged businesses within Perth and Kinross to consider nominating themselves for the most prestigious business awards in the UK – which were first established in 1966.

The Crieff Hydro CEO said: “Perthshire is full of exciting and innovative businesses and what would be a better way to be recognised and rewarded for their contribution to the local economy, than to celebrate with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise?

“The benefits of these awards are huge, and it would be fantastic to see some of the outstanding local businesses rewarded for their efforts in this way.

“While many businesses are closed or struggling just now, applying for an award may be the perfect way to give themselves a boost and use this time to prepare an application.”

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is free to enter and is open to businesses in every sector.

Applications for the 2022 awards will open

in May this year and close in early November.

Whether a small business with a great innovative product, or a larger company running an impressive social mobility programme, these awards are a significant way to recognise a company’s contribution to enterprise.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise recognises outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of:

• Innovation

• International trade

• Sustainable development

• Promoting opportunity ( through social mobility)

Stephen continued: “The very process of entering can be a worthwhile and fruitful process in itself, revisiting the catalyst to create the business, how it has developed and its aims for the future.

“Global competition is becoming tougher and applying for, and receiving an award, presents an opportunity to gain a competitive advantage going forward.”

If your company wins, you will be:

• Invited to a royal reception

• Presented with the award at your company by the lord lieutenant, the Queen’s representative;

• Able to fly The Queen’s Awards flag at your main office, and use the emblem on your marketing materials including packaging, advertisements, stationery and website

• Given an official certificate, known as a Grant of Appointment, and a commemorative crystal trophy.

Winners have reported benefiting from worldwide recognition, increased commercial value, greater press coverage and a boost to staff morale.
