Charity golf day raises a great £2500 so far for Samaritans

-

Almost £2500 has already been raised for the Samaritans in Perth, thanks to a successful charity open event held at Dunning Golf Club.

And organisers are hopeful that the total will be boosted even further as there is still time to make a donation.

The event was won by Jim Scrimgeour, with 47 points, and he will have his name engraved on the Kettles Family Charity Teapot.

The ladies’winner was Moira Aitken, with 39 points, and Luke Ross clinched the top junior prize with 43 points.

Other prize-winners were: gents, nearest the pin at fifth and 14th holes - Brian McIntosh; ladies, nearest pin in two at second and 11th holes - Alison Stockley; nearest the line at the eighth and 17th holes - Gary Brock (gents) and Carol Muir (ladies).

The club would like to thank main sponsors Simon Howie Butchers and painter and decorator John Byrne, as well as everyone, including visitors, who provided items for the prizes, raffle, silent auction and the other activities on the day, as well as the myriad of other helpers who contributed to the success of the event.

As well as the magnificent total raised for the Samaritans, the charity fundraiser also produced a new course record.

David Morrison shot an amazing 59 gross, shaving two shots off the previous record of 61.

He recorded four twos, including two eagles, six birdies and three bogeys. His outward half totalled 31 and he came back in 28.

“Breaking 60 on any course is a magical achievement and no less so on Dunning, with its six tough par threes,”Alan Hill, match and handicap secretary, observed.

“Well done, David.”
