Hallowe’en fun as Strath aims to scare in style

Variety of activities for all the family

- LYNN DUKE

Spooky goings-on are afoot in the Strath this weekend.

On Saturday, October 30, Comrie’s Legion Park will play host to some frightening fun from 4- 6pm with a mini disco and fancy dress competition among the activities on offer.

Organisers Friends of Legion Park say bring your own mug and enjoy some hot chocolate, marshmallows and home baking amid the fun.

Terri Bacon told the Herald: “We have the judges lined-up and they will be picking out who they believe to be the best dressed to win a treat in each age group.

“As well as all the spooky fun, we thought it’s not Halloween without pumpkins. So we want everyone to bring along their lantern of choice, whether that’s a pumpkin, turnip or something else, and put them on display.”

Elsewhere, Comrie PFA has organised Hallowe’en trails in Comrie and St Fillans.

Building on the success of last year’s Covid-safe alternative to guising, they have arranged a Spooky Window Wander around the streets of both villages, which will run from Friday until Sunday this week.

Local residents are being invited to join in by lighting up their windows and gardens with spooky displays to create a magical Hallowe’en walking trail for everyone to enjoy.

A spokesperson for Comrie PFA said:

“Your display could be as simple as some fairy lights in a window. Or you could go all out and turn your whole house into a creepy spectacle. Anything goes as long as it’s family friendly.”

And in Muthill, residents are already preparing for the Hallowed Eve.

Muthill in Bloom chair Susan Crawford has been placing pumpkins around the village for residents to take in and carve into lanterns.

And she is urging villagers to see if they can better last year’s Hallowe’en trail.

She said: “This week sees the return of our pumpkin display/Hallowe’en windows. Last year we had over 150 pumpkins around the village.”

Susan said she was moved by a recent donation to the efforts.

She added: “I received a call from

a lady who moved me to tears. She reminded me that last year I had put a selection of pumpkins out at the village larder and asked people to help themselves.

“Being out of work due to Covid this lady took two for her children. She wanted to repay the kindness shown last year and has donated pumpkins and bulbs for this year.

“And another lady has also taken the time to create a fabulous display and plant some beautiful tulips at the same time for our bulb appeal. What kind gestures.

“If you find any lonely- looking pumpkins around the village, then please take one home and have fun carving.

“The pumpkins will be marked with ‘MIB’.”
