Talented musicians to delight in Comrie

Live gigs lined-up for hall

- LYNN DUKE

Strath music promoter Chris’s Gigs is venturing onto the live stage again with two exciting concerts lined-up for Comrie.

Limited to an audience of 50, first up are Ross Ainslie and Tim Edey for a performance on Sunday, November 21, in the village’s Rural Hall.

Traditional music promoter Chris Grace said: “Ross and Tim were scheduled to play in the village in May 2020 but because of lockdown the gig was cancelled.

“So they recorded a concert especially for us which we put out online in June 2020 and you can still see that on the Chris’s Gigs YouTube channel.

“There is nothing like the electricity of a live performance and we are truly delighted to be able to finally welcome them to the village in what will be a

powerhouse of a gig.

“These award- winning multi instrumental musical geniuses are old friends and are two of the best musicians of their generation.

“Tim is a former BBC Musician of the year and he also won best duo with Brendan Power the same year.

“He is The Chieftains’ guitarist and accordionist of choice and also has a long standing solo career.

“He is rated by many to be one of the world’s best guitarists and melodeon players in the Celtic folk scene and he has recorded and toured with everyone from Christy Moore to Altan and Natalie

MacMaster.

“Ross is a three times nominated Musician of the Year at the BBC Folk Awards – in 2013, 2016, 2018 – and he also won best duo with Ali Hutton in 2017.

“He won Composer of the Year in 2015 at the Scots Trad Music Awards. He performs with many bands including Treacherous Orchestra, Salsa Celtica, Dougie MacLean and lots more. He has four solo albums to date.”

And in December Chris has lined up Ross Couper and Tom Oakes at the same venue.

She added: “It will be so good to be able to welcome live music back to the village after a break of almost 20 months and it will be so good to have a live audience in to hear it.

“We ask that all attendees take a lateral flow test on the day of the gig.

“These are easy to do, are free and available from the chemist.

“We also ask that masks are worn on entry to the hall and if moving around.

“They don’t need to be worn through the concert.”

Tickets will be available online on the Eventbrite website and in Hansen’s Kitchen.

The upcoming gigs are both BYOB events.
