Get in the running with local harriers
Club is on lookout for new members of all abilities
Local running club Strathearn Harriers is looking to increase its membership.
The latest coronavirus lockdown-easing measures mean group exercise is able to resume in Covid-compliant groups.
Regular club runs are back under way, with certain social distancing rules in place and group sizes limited for the time being.
Structured training is back under way and the club has said it would still welcome new members.
Recent events tackled include the Two Breweries Hill Race, the Auchterarder 10k and the Hidden Glen 10k.
A club spokesperson said: “It is so good to be out with others runners competing again.
“We’ve also had our medley of club runs, which are suitable for all.”
One of the next events on the radar for the club is the Chilli Trail Race, which is set to take place on Saturday, November 6.
Organised by local club Five Star Active as part of the wider Auchterarder Running Festival, the event started in 2017 when intrepid local runner Frank McGaffney pioneered a route starting in Auchterarder and heading into the foothills of the Ochils and back to the Lang Toon.
Its name is derived from the shape the route makes on popular running tracking app Strava and
includes varied, undulating, terrain underfoot.
The run itself starts at 11am on the day.
Prizes will be awarded to the first three men and women across the finish line.
Entrants most be at least 17 years old on the day of the race and the fee is £24, plus an additional admin fee.
A safety briefing will be sent to all runners the week before the event, as will precise details of the picturesque route.
Further details will also be posted on the Auchterarder Running Festival and Five Star Active Facebook pages.
Looking ahead to the winter months, the Harriers spokesperson continued: “We have a structured training session every Wednesday where you can run with other people of similar abilities.
“We have three club runs a week, every week, in all weathers to maintain your fitness.
“If you are interested in joining us membership runs from now until the end of 2022 for £20.
“For this you get all club training runs, structured training sessions and help and advice on everything connected with running plus, the benefit of running with other like minded people.
“We have had a flurry of new members in the last couple of weeks and hope that we have been welcoming and encouraging.
“Like most clubs, we would always love new people to come along and join us.
“You don’t have to be the fastest or fittest, but if you are looking to improve your running in anyway please get in touch.”
