Motion in tribute to volunteer

Politician honours Andrew

- CHRIS MARZELLA

A parliamentary motion has been submitted paying tribute to a muchloved mountain rescue volunteer who passed away recently.

Stirling SNP MSP Evelyn Tweed lodged the motion paying tribute to Andrew Eadington, a Killin Mountain Rescue Team member from Comrie who died on Monday, October 18, at the age of just 26.

In her motion, Ms Tweed proposed: “That the parliament offers its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Andrew Eadington, who tragically passed away at the age of 26 in October 2021; acknowledges the incredible work Andrew did volunteering for Killin Mountain Rescue during his life and the positive impact he had on the many people he met on and off the mountain; notes Andrew’s incredible commitment and knowledge of the

Trossachs and Breadalbane areas, where he spent his childhood helping his father gather sheep, which led him to naturally progress to becoming a valued member of the Killin Mountain Rescue team; honours the vital work Killin Mountain Rescue does, saving dozens of lives a year, and that this work would not be possible without volunteers like Andrew, and continues to support and champion volunteers like Andrew across the many charities and organisations who provide vital services to communities across Scotland.”

Following his death, a Killin MRT spokesperson said in a statement: “We were all devastated and stunned to learn of Andrew’s sudden passing.

“Known to us all affectionately as ‘Dochy’, we have lost not just a committed team member, but a mate and friend who was highly regarded by all.”

Andrew joined Killin Mountain Rescue Team as an 18 year-old – following in the footsteps of his dad Richard, who is currently a team member and SARDA search dog handler.

The spokesperson added: “Andrew quickly fitted into our team family. He was always keen to help and give up time to volunteer and help people in difficulty on the hills.

“He loved the hills and managing wildlife. It was the hillcraft skills he learned from his dad and many hours working in the hills that made him a valuable asset, and a key part of our search and rescue capability.

“Our thoughts are with his dad Richard, and all the family at this difficult time.

“Our love of the hills will not fade. Our fond memories of Dochy will not fade.”

Scottish Mountain Rescue said: “We are extremely saddened to hear the news that Killin Mountain Rescue Team member Andrew Eadington has passed away.

“Our sincere thoughts and condolences are with Andrew’s family, friends and team members during this extremely difficult time.”
