Darts Super Series set to begin

-

It is hoped Crieff will play a role in a new region-wide darts tournament.

The opening Perthshire Darts Association Super Series event takes place from 1pm at the Nortel in Coupar Angus on Saturday, November 20.

Separate men’s and women’s competitions will be held, with the entry fee set at £5 per player.

This will be the first of a number of Super Series events that will be held across Perthshire on the originally-proposed county darts match dates.

The dates have been freed-up as the region has withdrawn from this year’s Scottish Inter-County League, although there is hope a return will be on the cards in the future.

The second Super Series event will be played on Saturday, December 11, in the Barossa Street St Johnstone Supporters’Club in Perth.

It is then hoped both Crieff and Blairgowrie will also host events, as well as other locations.

Ranking points will be assigned after each event based on performance, and an overall men’s and women’s Super Series champion will be crowned after all events have been played.

Organisers have encouraged any present or recent county players, as well as new players who haven’t been involved in the set-up previously, to sign up.

There is no obligation to attend every event.

A spokesperson said:“For a variety of reasons, we’ve taken the difficult decision to withdraw from the Scottish Inter-County league for the 2021/22 season, but it is our intention to use this time proactively, and to engage the different darting areas of Perthshire, in order to re-enter the county set-up in a stronger position next year.

“To do this, we will be organising and running a number of Perthshire Darts Association competitions across Perthshire in the next year, with the aim of keeping current players involved, and engaging new players – making them aware of, and welcome into, the Perthshire county set-up.”
