VALE RUN RIOT Cup

It’s a real mauling at Market Park as Wolfhill are thrashed 13-1in

- SPORTS REPORTER

RuthlessVale of Earn swept aside Wolfhill 13-1 in front of a large crowd in the Ashleigh Cup on Saturday.

As the scoreline suggests, it was a one-sided affair at Market Park against a visiting side who currently sit top of the Second Division.

Vale took the lead after only five minutes when a cross from the wing by Kros Brown was tapped home by the returning Darral Cramb.

It was 2-0 to the hosts when Brian Finlay won a 50/50 in midfield and the ball ended up with Paddy Ward, who beat the keeper and rolled the ball into an empty net.

The tables were turned for Vale’s third when Ward provided the assist for strike partner Brown to head the ball well back across the Wolfhill keeper.

Finlay got his name on the scoresheet after being teed- up following good work by both Ross Brock and Brown.

There were still only 25 minutes on the clock at this stage and Aaron Dawson grabbed an assist when he squared the ball to Brown, who scored from a few yards out.

Brown completed his hat- trick when he was found in the box following great work down the right-hand side by the impressive Kieren Porter. Excellent distribution from keeper Dave McKay found Darral Cramb on the left and Vale added a seventh after Dawson finished the resulting cross well.

With five minutes to go before half-time, Ward scored his side’s eighth of the afternoon when he tapped home after Brown had rounded the Wolfhill keeper.

Jack Simpson added to the Vale tally after poking home a rebound after the Wolfhill keeper fumbled an effort by Ward.

The visitors got a goal back on the stroke of half- time with a good finish from the edge of the box.

Vale showed no signs of slowing down into the second half and Brown grabbed his fourth of the game after finishing a cross after Cramb got the better of the offside trap.

Substitute Jordan Crerar was introduced to the action and made an immediate impact by playing in Ward, who twisted and turned his marker brilliantly before finishing across the keeper.

A twelfth goal came when Brown got the end of his own flick before finding Josh Roberts in the box, who finished from six yards out.

The scoring was rounded off with a 13th strike with five minutes to go when Ross Nixon (left) slipped the ball down the right to Jamie Dickinson, who found Roberts.

Roberts finished neatly to grab his second of the game.

After the match, Vale’s Garry Brock said: “There was some clinical finishing and really top performances all over the park, especially from Kros and Paddy who were a handful all day.

“Despite the goals, our man of the match goes to Ross Nixon – who was excellent both defensively and on the ball going forward from the back.

“Well done to the boys and thanks for the support we have received over the last few home games. It’s great to see such a big crowd down at the games.”

Vale are at home again on Saturday with Dundee side Cannon Fodder the opposition in the North of Tay Cup.
