First darts event hit the target
Organisers have described the first edition of a new darts event as a success.
The opening Perthshire Darts Association Super Series took place at the Nortel in Coupar Angus late last month.
The men’s event was won by Craig McFadden, who beat Glenn Forsyth 4-0 in the final.
Brian Welsh and Ross MacDougall were semi-finalists.
The women’s event was won by Chloe O’Brien, who beat Karen Cruickshanks 3-1 in the final.
They pipped Sarah Christie and Michelle Cruickshanks to the final.
The Consolation Cup was won by Daryl Stewart, who beat Andy Shepherd 2-1 in the final.
Semi-finalists in this section were Jamie Robertson and Gary Keane.
A spokesperson said:“Thanks to everyone who came along. It was certainly a success.”
It was the first of a number of Super Series events that will be held across Perthshire on the originally-proposed county darts match dates.
The dates have been freed-up as the region has withdrawn from this year’s Scottish Inter-County League, although there is hope a return will be on the cards in the future.
The second Super Series event will be played on Saturday, December 11, in the Barossa Street St Johnstone Supporters’Club in Perth.
It is then hoped both Crieff and Blairgowrie will also host events, as well as other locations.
Ranking points will be assigned after each event based on performance, and an overall men’s and women’s Super Series champion will be crowned after all events have been played.
Organisers have encouraged any present or recent county players, as well as new players who haven’t been involved in the set-up previously, to sign up.
There is no obligation to attend every event.
The spokesperson explained: “For a variety of reasons, we’ve taken the difficult decision to withdraw from the Scottish Inter-County league for the 2021/22 season, but it is our intention to use this time proactively, and to engage the different darting areas of Perthshire, in order to re-enter the county set-up in a stronger position next year.
“To do this, we will be organising and running a number of Perthshire Darts Association competitions across Perthshire in the next year, with the aim of keeping current players involved, and engaging new players – making them aware of, and welcome into, the Perthshire county set-up.”
