JADETALKS COULD SEE A RETURN

New Saints boss on ex-skipper

- MATTHEW GALLAGHER

St Johnstone WFC head coach Grant Scott would welcome talks with Jade Greenshields about a possible return. The former Saints captain joined top tier Partick Thistle in September but has now left due to work and family commitments.

Greenshields, who is from Auchterarder, played a key role in the heart of the midfield during her time at the Perth club. “We’re always interested when that type of player comes up,” Saints’ head coach Scott said. “She has a strong history with the club. “There has not yet been a deep, meaningful conversation.

“We would be open to a chat, certainly.

“We’ll keep tabs on it.

“It’s a judgement we’ll take if the chance arises. “We wouldn’t close the door on any player, that is for sure.

“It has to fit with the way we are going forward. “We’ll always have the conversation and see what best suits everyone.”

Newly-appointed Scott hopes a positive result against Kilmarnock can start the process of reeling in teams above.

Saints are seeking to o bounce back from a 4- 1 defeat to league leaders Dundee United last Sunday afternoon.

Played at the Riverside in Perth – home of Jeanfield Swifts – skipper Nicola Jamieson had levelled in the first half but the visitors ran out deserved winners in the end.

“The better team probably won in the end if we’re being honest with ourselves,” Scott admitted. “There were critical moments in the game. “Having got back to 1-1, we then lost a really cheap goal just before half-time.

“And then the third very quickly after the restart. “Those are learnings that we can take in terms of how we manage the game.

“The first half was quite an even contest and we had a couple of visions of how we could break down United or exploit spaces.

“I thought the girls tried to execute that pretty well.”

Scott, an experienced operator who has enjoyed successful spells with Hibernian and Glasgow City, took hold of the Perth reins for the first time in early December.

Speaking shortly after his appointment, he said: “The one thing I’ve noticed straight away is a wee bit of a lack of experience in key areas of the team.

“People outside of St Johnstone and Perth will not know what the attraction is at this point.

“But if I can sell the vision and plan to one or two players to add quality, experience and competition, I’ll certainly do so.”

That vision and plan is to see Saints become a greater force in Scottish women’s football.

“The team is not in a great league position and has not had h the best series of results,” resul Scott said.

“B But at St Johnstone we’ve we’v got somewhere we want to aim towards.” tow
