A FITTING MEMORIAL

£1000 already pledged to buy football equipment and bench

- LYNN DUKE

An online fundraiser set up in memory of Comrie’s Andrew Eadington has raised more than £1000 in a week.

Local resident Gill Brock started the page

in the hope of funding football equipment for Legion Park, a picnic bench and a plaque in memory of Andrew who passed away, aged 26, in October last year.

Gill said: “A Go Fund Me page has been set up with the permission of his family.’’

Andrew’s parents, Anna Howat and Richard Eadington, thanked Gill for organising the fundraiser.

Richard told the Herald: “If we can make it happen it will be a fitting tribute to Andrew and I hope that, in years to come, many other families will be able to make happy memories there, the way that we did.”

FULL STORY:

A online fundraiser set up in memory of Comrie’s Andrew Eadington has been flooded with donations in its first week.

The village’s Gill Brock, who set up the giving page, said the response had been amazing so far and would provide a lasting legacy to one of the village’s own, who passed away aged 26 in October last year.

Gill said: “As most of us know, Andrew sadly took his own life late last year. This absolutely devastated his family, his friends and all who knew him.

“He loved his football and the outdoors and, with this in mind, a Go Fund Me page has been set up with the permission of his family.

“We hope to raise money for new fivea-side posts for the Legion Park – he loved his football.

“We also hope to raise enough for a picnic bench where a plaque will be placed in his memory.”

Gill added that the goals would be moveable to fit in with other activities in the park, which locals are currently on a mission to have revamped.

Any excess donations would go towards further enhancing the central green space.

It is also hoped that enough will be raised to incorporate space for a wheelchair at the picnic bench.

Gill continued: “A nicer young lad you couldn’t meet and he shouldn’t be forgotten.”

Anna stressed that another legacy to Andrew would be for anyone struggling, especially men, to talk to someone sooner rather than later, or reach out for help at one of the many mental health charities, such as the Samaritans or Mindspace – which promotes positive mental health for the people of Perth and Kinross.

To donate to the fundraiser – which had raised almost £1300 as of Wednesday morning this week – see the website www. gofundme.com.
