Getting ready to cast off for another year
The traditional ceremonial opening of the salmon fishing season on the River Earn takes place on Tuesday next week.
Crieff Angling Club will once again host the yearly curtain-raiser on the banks of the stretch of water at Strageath Mill from 10am on February 1, and all are welcome to attend.
Club secretary Alan Craig confirmed: “We will assemble at 10am and walk down to the river for the ceremony to bless the river and have the first cast. People will then fish on during the day.”
Crieff Angling Club controls three beats on the River Earn - Upper Strowan, Braidhaugh, and Drummond Castle – which together cover some five miles of the river.
The club also controls Drummond Loch.
