Priorities wrong when granting drink licence

- Dear Editor

I hope I was given a piece of false information, but I fear it may well be correct.

The information in question is that, despite objections by Crieff Community Council and Police Scotland, the Licensing Board of Perth and Kinross has approved yet another off-sales alcohol licence for Crieff.

Clearly these elected members believe that Crieff is somehow lacking in places to buy cheap alcohol and that Strathearn residents need another source of supply.

Actually, what we need are public toilets, more retailers to replace the ever-increasing numbers of closed shops and an enhanced police presence to cope with the vandalism, probably caused in part by the abundant supply of cheap alcohol.

Possibly they justify their decision by pointing out the needs of the owners of the increasing numbers of new properties ( in the hundreds) planned for the floodplain of the River Earn who, because of poor planning of infrastructure, will have to put up with a failure to plan a huge expansion of school places and medical facilities.

Perhaps cheap alcohol will make up for the fact that these new residents will be moving into what is in danger of becoming a dormitory town of Perth.

In the evening if they want to relieve themselves of the excess fluid, they will need to travel to Perth to find a public toilet, only the public transport links also are keeping up with the increase in population.
