Strath success at annual Scotch pie awards
There was plenty of Strath success at the 22nd World Championship Scotch Pie Awards.
Simon Howie Foods of Dunning and Sugar and Spice of Auchterarder were among the winners at the prestigious contest.
Simon Howie claimed a hat-trick, winning silver and bronze awards in the Hot Savoury category for their chilli cheese and chicken Kiev pies, respectively.
The firm also won silver in the Steak Pie (hand held) category for its ever-popular steak and gravy pie.
Lang Toon entrant Sugar and Spice, meanwhile, won a top prize in silver award for its fabulous steak bridie.
The annual judging day, which was held in a Covidsafe setting late last year, saw more than 70 butchers and bakers enter in excess of 400 of the nation’s best pies for judging by over 50 experts.
The competition is run by trade body Scottish Bakers on behalf of the industry and the results were announced last week.
Chief executive Alasdair Smith said: “We have overcome everything Covid could throw at us this year to celebrate the best pies and, as always, the results did not disappoint.
“It is with great pleasure that we can announce that Simon Howie Foods and Sugar and Spice have won prizes, and they can be rightly very proud of their achievements.
“We took delivery of over 400 entries this year, so to win is no small feat and to know that every winning product was lovingly made from scratch from locally sourced ingredients, and is freshly made daily by skilled craftspeople, just goes to show the skill, creativity and hard work of each and every entrant.”
The official award partner is the BAKO Group.
