Probe into weapon alert

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have encountere­d suspicious activity in Crieff at the weekend.

Officers raced to the Strath capital on Saturday following reports of youths in possession of a weapon in the Leadenflow­er area.

Locals described seeing at least three police cars and one police van racing to the scene from Perth.

There were no subsequent reports of anyone being injured but enquiries are ongoing.

Police Scotland Inspector Nichola Forrester told the Herald:“Officers attended at Leadenflow­er Place in Crieff at around 2pm on Saturday, February 5, after reports of a number of youths in possession of a weapon. A search of the area was carried and there was no trace of the youths.

“We have not had any reports of anyone being injured and we are continuing with our enquiries. Anyone with informatio­n should contact us through 101 quoting reference number 1850 of Saturday, February 5.”
