Special plans to honour Queen’s reign

On Sunday Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonweal­th.

To celebrate the unpreceden­ted anniversar­y, events and initiative­s will be taking place throughout the year, culminatin­g in a four-day bank holiday weekend from June 2- 5.

And a variety of events are being planned for Perthshire, including in Strathearn.

Lord-Lieutenant Stephen Leckie told the Herald:“We are privileged to be involved in this momentous year of celebratio­n.

“And there will be many, many people and organisati­ons involved in our monarch’s Platinum Jubilee.”

Mr Leckie revealed that the Lieutenanc­y would by working with Perth and Kinross Council and local community councils, clubs and associatio­ns to put on major events in June, including a prom concert in Perth Concert Hall, beacon lighting, parades and a‘Big Lunch’.
