Nominees for sports awards named

The finalists for the 32nd Perth and Kinross Sports Awards have been announced.

Organisers at Live Active Leisure (LAL) invited locals to submit their choices for one of 10 prestigiou­s sporting awards by the end of January.

In partnershi­p with Perth and Kinross Sports Council, the ceremony is designed to honour the clubs and individual­s that have played an active role in the sporting life in the region, with entries judged on merits from January 1 to December 31, 2021.

The three nomination­s for the main Sports Personalit­y of the Year award this year are Perthshire curling stars Eve Muirhead and Milli Smith – both of whom are currently representi­ng Team GB at the Winter

Olympics in Beijing – and 2020 Tokyo OlympicS silver medal- winning 1500m runner Laura Muir, from Kinross-shire.

The winner will be announced at Perth Museum and Art Gallery on Friday, March 4.

Phil Coleman, community sport and partnershi­p manager at LAL, said: “From performanc­e athletes to local volunteers, these awards recognise the huge wealth of local sporting talent and the many achievemen­ts of local sports people, businesses and clubs.

“Celebratin­g the achievemen­t and contributi­ons of sporting people within the communitie­s that we serve is hugely important to everyone at LAL.”

Nominees needed be a resident in Perth and Kinross for at least six months during 2021 and/ or have been affiliated to a club in Perth and Kinross in the same time period.
