Twinning funding

-

A cheeky calendar, which raised a few laughs, has also raised more than £ 1500 for the Comrie/ Carleton Place Twinning.

Locals bared almost all for the fundraising effort that netted £1520.

The village’s twinning with Carleton Place in Canada celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

Visits have been enjoyed in the past, including student exchanges and a memorable visit by Comrie Pipe Band, and there are plans for the trips to return.

Comrie community councillor Scott Broadly has taken on the role of reestablishing connections wi t h t h e C ana d i a n counterparts and has also set up a social media page.

He has held meetings online with Jeff Maguire, chair of the Carleton Place Sister City Committee.

And, it is hoped that a delegation from Comrie will once again make the trip across the pond, with the proceeds from the calendar and other fundraising activities paying for youngsters to take part.

A spokesperson for the Twinning Committee said: “This will go a long way to paying for a child or two to visit Canada when we can, allowing them to experience something they never normally would have had.

“Hopefully this will also give them inspiration to go on to greater things.

“The Twinning Committee would especially like to thank all the guys for volunteering to pose for the calendar and to our local businesses for supporting this cause – The Handy Shop, Senses Face and Body Spa, Comrie Post Office, Cafe Comrie, Davisdsons’ Chemist, Day to Day, McIntyre’s Hair Salon, Julie Harrigan of Capture Scotland and the Tainsh family for use of their farm.”
