Invitation to all abilities
Mountain bikers of all abilities have been invited to join Strathearn Mountain Bike Club, which is getting back on track following a hiatus due to the pandemic.
The club was about to get up and running in 2020, and a committee had been formed, but then the first coronavirus lockdown hit.
But for the past two weeks members have been enjoying social ride-outs once again.
And others are invited to join in on Sunday mornings at Comrie Croft.
“We just want to be excited about riding bikes together again and build on that,” said bike enthusiast Emily Greaves, one of the club’s founders.
“We are starting small, so we are starting weekly rides at 10am on a Sunday, meeting at Comrie Croft.
“But the first Sunday of every month will be an away ride somewhere else to make things a bit different.
“Everybody is welcome.
“At some point when we are slightly more organised, people will be asked to join formally.
“We still have a lot to do to properly formulate the club and affiliate to British Cycling etc, and there is a load of paperwork for that.
“We are also hoping to do social events, such as barbecues and cake swaps.
“There are a lot of people locally who, I believe, want to ride bikes socially and I don’t want them to be put off so there should be enough people so that some can go off and ride a black run if that’s what they want to do but if you just want to do a blue run there will be someone to go with. We don’t all have to do the same ride together.
“On our first Sunday, for example, we all splintered off to do the runs we wanted but then we all met back at the coffee trailer.
“Some parents want coaching for their children, but that will be secondary because we need to find the coaches first.
“But we hope to offer after-school clubs at Comrie Croft during the summer term, and a weekly evening ride.
“We will put up a notice at Comrie Croft and on social media initially and then, eventually, will set up a closed group which everyone who has paid a membership fee can join.”
