Party in full swing as St Fillans Golf Club named ‘best course’
All those connected to St Fillans Golf Club were celebrating recently after scooping another prestigious award.
The picturesque Strath course was the winner in the Best 9-Hole Course category at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards.
The ceremony took place at a gala dinner at the Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews – the home of golf – on Thursday last week.
There were smiles all round when St Fillans won the same award in 2019 and the local delegation who travelled to the ceremony was delighted to win again.
Sports presenter and MC Dougie Donnelly noted that the competition in the category had been extremely keen and congratulated the club on what is a terrific achievement.
Club captain Ali Calder said:“After first winning the award in late 2019, the club’s efforts to promote the course were thwarted with the onset of the pandemic.
“But, this time around, we will redouble our efforts to take advantage of the award.
“In the coming weeks there are plans to hold a celebration event for club members who have supported the club so well.
“Two consecutive wins is certainly worth a celebration.
“Greenkeeper John Myles was present at the event and he is to be heartily congratulated on the standard of the course.
“Members and visitors to the club have also commented on the excellent catering provided by Julie Murray, of Nutritious & Delicious, and also the friendly welcome too.”
Crieff Golf Club was nominated in the Best Customer Service section but was narrowly pipped by eventual winners Kingsbarns Golf Links.
The Scottish Golf Tourism Awards are determined solely by a public vote.
When voting closed organisers – who congratulated all the winners – said a record number had been cast.
