MSP raises junction concerns

- LYNN DUKE

Local MSP Jim Fairlie raised concerns about the proposed new junction on the A9 at Shinafoot, east of Auchterarder, in the Scottish Parliament recently.

The SNP Perthshire South and Kinross- shire representative questioned Transport Minister, Jenny Gilruth MSP, during General Questions at Holyrood last week.

Mr Fairlie said he was pleased with Ms Gilruth’s response, as she said she was prepared to visit the site to discuss the issues with local representatives.

Mr Fairlie commented: “There is growing community concern about the planned new junction on the A9 at Shinafoot, east of Auchterarder. Residents have concerns about road safety and speeding issues, the location of the proposed junction and the fact that it appears to have been scaled back from a two-way to a one-way system.

“I raised these concerns with the minister and I am delighted that she agreed to meet me on-site to discuss these concerns with local representatives.

“As the minister said in her response to me, it is absolutely essential that we get road safety improvements right for the communities that they serve and I very much welcome her willingness to listen to local representations.”
